Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have agreed to push back the Tokyo Summer Olympics at least one year to no later than the Summer of 2021.

They made the decision to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement comes just days after both Canada and Australia said they would not send teams to the 2020 games.

The games were set to kick off at the end of July.
