Okay, confession time…I’m not the biggest reader these days. But back in elementary school, books were my jam, especially The Hunger Games series. I read every book before the movies hit the screen, wore my hair in a Katniss braid, and proudly wore my mockingjay pin (which has somehow disappeared over the years).
So, imagine my excitement when a new book in the series dropped last month. My inner 12-year-old was all over it, and I just had to get my hands on it. The day after release, I made a beeline to the bookstore. As I left with Sunrise on the Reaping in my hands, the mall speakers played Olivia Rodrigo’s “Can’t Catch Me Now” from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie. Talk about perfect timing!
Flipping through the pages about Haymitch’s backstory was like catching up with an old friend. Even though the story is on the darker side, I was reminded how awesome it feels to read something you love. Seriously, “reading for pleasure” is a real thing, it’s like TV in your head!
After finishing the book (and absolutely sobbing), I was inspired to keep the reading train going. I haven’t picked my next book yet, but I know it’ll be one that excites me. Here’s to diving back into the world of books!
