Another Court Appearance for Manitoba Man Who Stabbed a Police Officer

A man arrested in connection with the stabbing of a police officer on the Waywayseecappo First Nation has appeared in court again.

21-year-old Matthew Benn was in Brandon yesterday (THURS), charged with Attempted Murder, and was remanded in custody, for a preliminary hearing, on January 30th.

The Manitoba First Nations Police officer was called to a business on May 29th, on a report of a disturbance, and when he attempted to arrest a male, another male stabbed the officer multiple times.

The officer then drew his firearm and shot the second male.

The 29-year-old police officer was treated in hospital for serious injuries but was released soon after.
