There are now 21,243 COVID-19 cases in Canada, with 531 deaths, with many linked to long term care homes.
In her daily pandemic briefing in Ottawa, chief public health official Dr. Theresa Tam says a lot has been accomplished over the past few weeks.
“We’ve held our own through the progression of the epidemic, helped our fellow Canadians to come home from abroad and kept our health system from being overwhelmed.” Dr. Tam noted.
Dr. Tam also says 383 thousand Canadians have been tested, with 5% coming back positive.
More Financial Aid for Indigenous People
Canada’s indigenous people are getting more federal aid to help with the pandemic.
During the daily federal briefing in Ottawa, Indigenous Services minister Mark Miller says the transfer of $305 million in funds to support indigenous communities and organizations has started to flow.
“While the majority of those funds are flowing directly to communities, 15-million dollars will go towards Indigenous organizations providing services to Indigenous peoples in urban centres and those living off reserve.” Miller said.
Miller also admitted those funds may not be sufficient to meet the needs.
