Tests for Avian Influenza are being performed on several wild bird samples in Manitoba.

A number of the samples are from southwestern Manitoba near Waskada, while one sample is from the Dauphin area.

This strain of avian influenza has been confirmed in a number of Canadian provinces, as well as in the United States, and it has a low risk to human health.

The risk of avian influenza to human health is low and there are no known cases of transmission of this strain of virus from birds to humans in North America
