Two local residents were among the nine recipients of the 2021 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal, presented today by Lieutenant-Governor Russ Mirasty, at Government House in Regina. Bob Bjarnason of Churchbridge is a lifetime member of the Lions Club, has been involved in minor hockey and minor ball for 14 years, and has been part of many community organizations, including Churchbidge in Bloom and the Cemetery Committee. Elaine Wirtz of Wadena has been a board member of a non-profit organization serving people with disabilities since 1981, having served as chair for 34 years. She has also volunteered with the Wadena Housing Authority for 28 years, as well as at the local museum.
