The Yorkton Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is accepting applications for the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program, which is back for a 3rd year.
The deadline for applications is fast approaching – this Sunday (15th) – and Legion President Ken Gordon says the program is for any veteran from any past or current conflict or mission. That includes military, medical or RCMP. Conflicts and missions listed in a media release from the Legion include the two World Wars, the Korean War, and worldwide service for the UN & NATO in countries such as Cyprus, Afghanistan, Haiti, Kosovo, and Bosnia.
“We are looking for diversity and do not want any veteran gone unrecognized.” the Legion mentioned in the release.”
So far, 23 applications have been submitted according to Gordon.
Applications are available at the Legion Branch, on 387-B Parkview Road in Yorkton – open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m to 12 p.m. – on their website – Yorktonlegion.ca – and on the Yorkton Legion Facebook Page.
Gordon notes the process starts early to ensure banners go up in Yorkton by the fall, since the new banners take about 6-8 weeks to complete.
Gordon also says support from the City and local businesses has been a big help towards keeping the program going.
“And we also had some individuals that have just made donations to the project…and that all is a big help to make this very important project go forward.”
